Welcome to Kenosis
Welcome to Kenosis. My hope is that you will find resources, ideas and new paradigms that specifically address your desire to be a leader of high character in your environment.
A number of folks have asked, "What does Kenosis mean?" Kenosis is a greek word that paints a powerful picture of an intentional way of living . . . a heart and mindset to voluntarily and willingly not assert my own privileges and rights in order to serve the needs and best interests of others. Who knows where that kind of decision making will take the individual who makes that choice on a moment by moment, day to day basis? One thing for sure, this type of leader will gain a level of respect and authority that no title, degree, wealth or corner office will ever command.
What's the catch? There has to be some kind of sacrifice if one is to achieve that level of influence, doesn't there? The answer is a simple, 'yes.' A Kenosis way of life will eventually bring pain. Wait a minute. You mean that if I want to have a legacy-kind of influence on a person's life, pain is inevitable? For anyone who has opened themselves up in an honest and transparent manner to another, they know the answer. There's great reward, but also great risk. And so maybe that is why we see so few authentic leaders who can radically change the cultural landscape of a city, an organization, a corporation, a government agency, a university, let alone a family.
It is more than ironic that the same factor which causes this pain is also the factor which brings peace and contentment in the midst of the relational chaos. That factor is the demonstration of high character ethics. Nothing represents the spirit of Kenosis more than the consistent pursuit and incarnation of high character ethics. So, do you want to be a leader in your home, school, work, religious or community setting? If you do, hopefully through this website, and Kenosis itself, we can assist you in persevering for the always right but not always popular message of high character being the way to relate and thereby the way to lead people.
Best wishes to you as you intentionally decide to model high character in your world. As the highest act of service to those we influence, may we all pursue being the message of high character. That's the Kenosis way.
